In the eastern part of the Breton municipality of Fouesnant lies Beg-Meil, a place known for its many bays with hidden beaches. When my family and I spend a week in this region, we visit this coastline several times. Preferably in the evening, as we spend the day exploring other beautiful spots in Finistère. Perhaps I’ve secretly fallen a little bit in love with Beg-Meil, which is why I always want to return. In this article, I’ll take you to this beautiful spot on the southern coast of Brittany.
Beaches in the South of Beg-Meil
We park the car at the end of Chem. de Kerambigorn, close to the beach. If there’s no parking here, the parking lot along Rte des Dunes is also an option. From the parking lot, we immediately head towards Plage de Kerambigorn. The beaches here are quite long and wide and especially in the evening, it’s absolutely lovely! It’s not crowded at all, even in the middle of the summer season. From the beach, we walk eastward, encountering a new bay each time. The next beaches we pass are Plage Kermyl and Plage des Dunes.

Pointe de Beg-Meil
Next, things get really fun, especially for our kids. We arrive at Pointe de Beg-Meil, a part of the area with many rocks. It’s a beautiful spot, this section of Beg-Meil. The rocks are large and round in shape, making them tempting to climb. The sand is a beautiful white and the water is clear, giving it a tropical feel!

Coastal Walking Path of Beg-Meil
We walk back a bit and leave the beach. Here, we cross a walking path that lies a few meters higher than the beach. We follow it eastward. The views are beautiful, especially in spots where you can peek through the bushes to see the rocky coastline. Baie de la Forêt looks stunning from this angle. Further along, the path comes closer to sea level again. We encounter several beaches, some of which appear to be really hidden. So much fun! Now and then, it’s a real search for a staircase that leads down to the beach. Some beaches seem completely deserted, with no stairs in sight.

Beaches in the east of Beg-Meil
A few larger beaches (which are still quite small and intimate) include Plage des Oiseaux, Plage de Ker and Plage de Kerveltrec. The walking path doesn’t always run directly along the coast; now and then, the path takes you a bit into the town center. For example, you’ll walk around the gardens of houses along the coast, making the walk even more varied. Eventually, we walk all the way to La Roche Percée, a beautiful natural stone arch.

A photography paradise
We walk the same way back and the light becomes more beautiful by the minute. Mist rises over the sea, which makes everything even softer and more atmospheric. It’s truly a joy to photograph this place at this time of day! Beg-Meil is the perfect spot to visit in the evening. On sunny days, but also on cloudier days; we visit at the end of a cloudy day and even then, it’s a pleasure to walk around here. Highly recommended if you’re vacationing in this area.
