Welcome to travelinmypocket.com! My name is Melissa Peltenburg. I live in Haarlem, I am married with Wouter and we have two children (born in 2009 and 2012).

Travel and photography are two passions in my life that have become deeply intertwined. I love exploring new destinations, experiencing different cultures and capturing beautiful places through my lens. I enjoy taking readers on a visual journey, where photography plays a key role in conveying the atmosphere and beauty of each destination. Whether it’s hiking through the mountains, discovering landmarks in vibrant cities or unwinding in remote hideaways; I’m excited to share my experiences, tips and insights to inspire and help others plan their next adventure.

Nominations and Awards

With the Dutch, original version of travelinmypocket.com (Reislegende.nl), I was nominated four times for the Dutch Travel Blog Awards 2025 (Best Cultural/Culinary Travel Story, Best Family Travel Story, Social Video of the Year and the Audience Award). In the end, I was honored to receive the award for Best Cultural/Culinary Travel Story. A wonderful recognition for the work that often happens behind the scenes!

I have also been nominated for the Dutch Travel Blog Awards 2026, this time in the category Best Hotel Story. The award ceremony will take place in January 2026.
