Choosing where to stay on Koh Pha Ngan (also written as Koh Phangan) can feel overwhelming. There are so many options that it is easy to lose track. Where should you stay? Which accommodations are genuinely enjoyable? And which ones are close to beautiful beaches? To make things a little easier, I share my own experiences with several places we stayed during our time on Koh Pha Ngan.

Malibu Beach Bungalows may not offer the most luxurious accommodation, but we still enjoy our stay here. We choose this place because the bungalows are located directly at Malibu Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the north of Koh Pha Ngan. The bungalows are neatly furnished and have a spacious bathroom, although they are a bit dated. One downside for us is that the air conditioning takes some time to cool the room and can only be activated with your key. When you leave, it always switches off. The swimming pool is large enough if you want to swim laps and there are loungers and umbrellas available. During our stay it is wonderfully quiet and we have the entire pool to ourselves.
Malibu Beach
Next to the swimming pool a small bridge leads you to Malibu Beach. Here you step into a little oasis of palm trees. At high tide it feels as if you are standing on a tiny uninhabited island, with water on both sides. Early in the morning it is wonderfully calm, almost like a private spot, your own tropical island with a palm grove. During the day this area becomes popular with volleyball players and young travellers who come here to socialise.
If this specific spot feels a bit too busy, you can simply walk onto the wide stretch of beach. A little farther along, where Malibu Beach transitions into Chaloklum Beach, you will find several nice restaurants. Kaif is one of our absolute favourites for breakfast or lunch and we enjoy delicious dinners at Phorn. Another authentic and charming dinner option is Baan Hin Ngam, located along the main road. If you feel like browsing a cosy shop for clothes, jewellery and accessories, it is worth stopping by Hi Chameli.
Other accommodation near Malibu Beach
Malibu Beach Bungalows is very budget friendly. Another affordable option with good reviews and close proximity to Malibu Beach is Baan Bhuwann Holiday Apartment. If you prefer to stay closer to Chaloklum Beach and are looking for a bit more luxury, Adika, The Beachfront Loft is worth considering. If being right on the beach is less important to you and you enjoy beautiful views from an elevated terrace, Yume17 – Sea View Villas, Private Pools, Studio Rooms is a real gem.
Hin Kong Sandbank
On the west side of the island lies the Hin Kong Sandbank, a sandbar located just off the coast. From the beach you can walk straight onto it, as the sandbank forms a T shape that extends out into the sea. The area is at its most beautiful during high tide, when the sandbank is framed by clear water on both sides. The contrast between the light sand and the blue water is stunning.
At low tide the scene changes completely and the sandbank blends into the beach itself. Everything dries up, creating a wide sandy plain where washed up debris can become more visible. Still, regardless of the tide, it remains a lovely place for a quiet stroll and to experience the peaceful atmosphere of the west coast of Koh Pha Ngan.
Castaway Beach Bungalows
If you want to wake up and fall asleep with a view of this unique sandbank, Castaway Beach Bungalows is the perfect place to stay. Several bungalows stand directly on the beach, all with views of the Hin Kong Sandbank. Each bungalow is different and charmingly decorated, with lots of attention to detail.
Castaway Beach Bar is a wonderful spot to relax with food and drinks. The lunches are genuinely delicious and the massages are highly recommended as well. On both sides of Castaway Beach Bungalows you will also find several great places to eat, including Mama Kop, Morning Smoothai, Happiness and Charlie’s.
Caya Beach by Satori
We also spend a few nights in a lovely bungalow at Caya Beach by Satori. When we stay here in the summer of 2025, the bungalows are brand new. They are arranged around a small swimming pool in a beautifully landscaped garden. The entire complex is small scale, which makes it an especially pleasant and peaceful place to stay. The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly.
The bungalows are located on the opposite side of the main road, but it is easy to cross and you are immediately on Hin Kong Beach.
